The Annual National Census figures have been submitted confirming that the Group continues to provide an excellent Scouting programme in our area. Although the number of children has shown a 10% decrease from 2011, the leaders are happy with the numbers in each Section.

With clear skies and very little wind, the event was a great success and enjoyed by all those who had bought tickets in advance. With the funds raised, it will keep the Group going for another 12 months. Roll on 2012!!

Success at County Camping Competition - 18/9/11
Two patrols entered the annual County Camping and Backwoods Cooking competition. This year's event was held at Bibby's Farm. Unfortunately no other patrols were entered so it was a straight competition between our two teams. The weather was horrible on Saturday - the main day of competition. Sunday was drier. Results and photos to follow later.
Busy weekend at Ashworth Valley - 23/5/11 The Beavers and Scouts had a busy weekend at Ashworth Valley Campsite this weekend. The Beavers took part in the day long County Beaver Fun Day to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Beavers. The Beavers had an action packed day with creative, sporting and wet bases. All went home with massive smiles on their tired faces. 13 Scouts took part in the annual one night "Young Camp - A day in the life of Summer Camp". The Scouts learnt how to setup a patrol camp with nigers, dining shelters, fires etc. The afternoon was spent learning how to make camp gadgets and use knife and axe. They cooked a beef stew on the barrell fire. Sunday morning started wet, with breakfast being cooked on the gas stoves, before laying out their kit and tidying the kitchen areas for the inspection. All aimed at giving them some of the skills needed for the week long Summer Camp in August. 5 older Scouts completed their Expedition Challenge badge walking from Greenmount to the Campsite carrying all the kit needed to camp and cook on their own on the overnight camp. Tea consisted of pasta, sauce and Pot Noodles cooked on a Tangia. Sunday was spent walking back to Greenmount following a different route than the day before. Photos of all of the above to follow shortly Bolton Challenge Hike - 16/5/11
Three Scout and two Cub teams competed in the 10th annual Bolton Challenge Hike last weekend.
All teams has to have their equipment checked by Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and plot their route before setting out on their hike. With mixed weather during the day, all teams walked the route without getting too lost. With a number of activities to complete onroute and at the bases, they returned to the campsite shattered. Results were issued the following day - unfortunately no wins or top three places for any of the teams. Our Scouts won the first event 10 years ago - would have been nice to win 10 years on.
Well done to all those who took part - the ASL Cub team beat the GSL Cub team!!!
